The comedy genre is a very popular mode of entertainment in the Hindi film industry, and many comedians have gone on to become huge stars. In recent years, though, there has been a decline in the popularity of what few films make it to the big screens. Nevertheless, as the production costs keep increasing for those films which do make it through to theaters, not many filmmakers can afford this expense. In order to combat these costs and save costs for their audiences as well as themselves without compromising quality or bringing down ticket prices too much , a few filmmakers have started producing short films that are independent from big-budget movies. These self-funded short films are called "Indie comedies". "Run" is the first Indian short film that was self-funded and self-promoted. Directed by popular stand-up comedian Harsha Bhogle, it was presented at the Mountain Play Festival, organized by the College of Mount St. Joseph in Mahabaleshwar, Maharashtra. It also won two awards at this festival. "Run" was shot entirely in Pune at the time whereas all other comedy movies are shot outside cities or countries or both to reduce production cost worries, but "Run" was filmed entirely inside Pune to give it a 100% city reality feel like an independent short movie should be like. "Run" was a journey of a single man's chase for a bus which he missed because of sheer lack of time. Harsha Bhogle was the main character who had to chase his bus, and it had action scenes as well as moments of comedy. The film has been shot inside the city limits of Pune which makes it unique as most other short films are shot abroad or at least outside cities or countries or both to reduce production cost worries, but "Run" was filmed entirely inside Pune to give it a 100% city reality feel like an independent short movie should be like. It has been claimed by many that "Run" won't be able to compete with the well-established Indian short film festival like the National Film Festival of India and International Film Festivals like Cannes and Berlin . However, it did open a new page in Indian short film history by winning many awards and recognition in the competitive world that is the short film world. After its release at Mountain Play Festival in Pune, "Run" received widespread appreciation by the public both at home and abroad. The movie went on to become an internet rage after Bhogle's hilarious commentary about Pune became viral on YouTube. It was also featured in The Times of India's list of best independent movies watched online over a period of time. Its popularity grew further when it topped the charts worldwide on iTunes India.
